About Canton, MA - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
The town of Canton is extremely rich in history. It was incorporated in 1797 and named by Elijah Dunbar, who was the first President of the Stoughton Musical Society, now the oldest choral society in the U.S. In 1801 Paul Revere built the country’s first Copper Rolling Mill in Canton. As an expression of his love for the town, he wrote a beautiful poem titled “Canton Dale”. Also, Elijah Morse, creator of the potbelly stove, opened the Rising Sun Stove Polish Company in town. Other points of historic interest are the Canton Viaduct, built in 1835, the Canton Corner Historic District, the Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate, built in 1902, the Prowse Farm, and the Canton Public Library, established in 1874 by Frank Webster. Mr. Webster served as the voluntary Librarian.
Today commerce in Canton is extensive. The town is headquarters for Reebok, Dunkin’ Donuts, Computershare, Organogenesis, Inc., Interpolymer Corporation, OneBeacon Insurance, and Casual Male Retain Group. The Massachusetts Division headquarters of the Salvation Army also calls Canton home.
The town is located at the foot of Great Blue Hill. Hikers can gain a great view of Boston from the Eliot Tower on the peak of the hill. The Canton River, which flows through the center of town, links a number of small lakes including Bolivar and Forge Ponds. Also of interest to residents and visitors alike is the Mildred Morse Allen Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Canton public school system is comprised of three elementary schools, one middle school and Canton High School. Other schools located in town are the Massachusetts Hospital School, the Blue Hills Regional Technical School and Massasoit Community College.
Like many of its neighbors, Canton’s climate is considered humid continental.
